Creating Your Beautiful Life

Construct a Picture Frame

Video preview

Creating a picture frame for a completed puzzle is a rewarding project that not only showcases your hard work but also transforms the puzzle into a piece of wall art. Whether you're framing a family portrait, a beautiful landscape, or an intricate design, a custom picture frame will give your puzzle the presentation it deserves. Here’s a detailed guide on how to construct a picture frame for your puzzle.

Materials and Tools Needed

- Completed puzzle

- Measuring tape

- Wood for frame (four pieces)

- Miter saw or miter box with saw

- Table Saw or Router for the rabbet (or purchase wood specifically made for frames)

- Wood glue

- Mod Podge or equivalent

- Clamps

- Sandpaper (medium and fine grit)

- Wood stain or paint

- Paintbrush or staining cloth

- Clear acrylic sheet or glass

- Backing board (foam board or cardboard)

- Frame hanging hardware

- Ruler

- Pencil

- Utility knife or box cutter

- Screwdriver

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Measure the Puzzle

Begin by measuring the dimensions of your completed puzzle. Measure both the length and the width. These measurements will determine the size of your frame. Note down the dimensions accurately, as precise measurements are crucial for a good fit. Add a 1/16" to allow for some play.

2. Select and Cut the Wood

Choose wood that complements the style of your puzzle. Popular choices include poplar, pine, oak, and maple. You’ll need four pieces of wood for the frame, cut to fit the dimensions of your puzzle.

- For the sides: Measure and cut two pieces of wood to match the length of the puzzle.

- For the top and bottom: Measure and cut two pieces of wood to match the width of the puzzle.

Use a miter saw or miter box to cut 45-degree angles at each end of the four pieces. These angles will allow the pieces to fit together neatly at the corners.

3. Assemble the Frame

Lay the cut pieces out on a flat surface to form the frame shape. Apply wood glue to the mitered ends and join the pieces together. Use clamps to hold the frame in place while the glue dries. Check that the frame is square by measuring diagonally from corner to corner; the measurements should be equal.

4. Sand and Finish the Frame

Once the glue has dried and the frame is secure, sand the frame to smooth any rough edges. Start with medium-grit sandpaper and finish with fine-grit sandpaper. Next, stain or paint the frame. Apply wood stain with a cloth, wiping off excess for a smooth finish, or use a paintbrush if you prefer a painted look. Allow the frame to dry completely before proceeding.

5. Prepare the Acrylic Sheet or Glass

Measure and cut a clear acrylic sheet or glass to fit inside the frame. The sheet should be slightly smaller than the inner dimensions of the frame to ensure it fits comfortably. If using glass, handle it carefully and consider having it cut professionally to avoid sharp edges.

6. Attach the Puzzle to the Backing Board

Place the completed puzzle on a backing board, such as foam board or cardboard. Trace the outline of the puzzle on the board and cut the board to match the size of the puzzle using a utility knife. Secure the puzzle to the board with a clear-drying adhesive or puzzle glue, ensuring it is evenly spread to avoid any lumps or bumps. Allow the adhesive to dry thoroughly.

7. Assemble the Frame Components

Insert the acrylic sheet or glass into the frame. Place the puzzle with the backing board behind the acrylic or glass. Check that everything fits snugly.

8. Secure the Backing

Use small nails, frame clips, or glazier points to secure the backing board to the frame. Space them evenly around the edges to hold the backing board in place securely.

9. Attach Hanging Hardware

Attach hanging hardware to the back of the frame. A sawtooth hanger is a simple option, or you can use D-rings and picture wire for a more traditional method. Ensure the hardware is centered and securely attached.

10. Hang and Enjoy

Your framed puzzle is now ready to be displayed. Choose a spot on your wall that will showcase your hard work and enjoy the satisfaction of seeing your puzzle transformed into a beautiful piece of art.

Tips for Success

- Accuracy is key: Double-check all measurements and cuts to ensure a precise fit.

- Safety first: Wear safety goggles and gloves when cutting wood and handling glass.

- Patience with drying: Allow all adhesives and finishes to dry completely for the best results.

- Use quality materials: Investing in good materials will ensure your frame is sturdy and durable.

By following these steps, you can create a custom picture frame that not only preserves your puzzle but also adds a personal touch to your home décor. Enjoy the process and the beautiful result of your craftsmanship!

The Ab Wheel Rollout

Walk into almost any gym and you’ll probably see a small piece of equipment sitting quietly in the corner—a simple wheel with two handles. It doesn’t look like much. In fact, many people walk right past it without giving it a second thought. But that little wheel might be one of the most effective core-strengthening tools you can use. The ab wheel rollout is a deceptively simple exercise that builds serious core strength, improves stability, and strengthens muscles throughout your entire midsection. When done correctly, it trains the body in the way your core is actually designed to work—stabilizing your spine and resisting movement rather than simply bending forward like a crunch or sit-up. Let’s walk through why this exercise is so effective and how you can safely add it to your routine.

A Bridge to Forever

Some love stories begin in youth. Others begin after life has tested you. Ours began in 2017 on July 26th. When I first met Pam, I didn’t know that the woman standing in front of me at Pinstripes would one day become my wife. What I did know was that there was something beautiful about her, inside and out.  She had an amazing smile.  She was warm. She was genuine. She was easy to be with. At a stage in life when both of us had already lived full chapters — raising children, building careers, walking through joy and hardship — we weren’t looking for fairy tales. We were hoping to fall in love again. To feel that spark, that closeness, that deep sense of choosing and being chosen. We wanted something real, yes — but also something tender, joyful, and alive. And that’s exactly what we found in each other.
