The West Egg Decision Compass
1️⃣ Clarity
What actually matters here?
At this stage of life, not everything deserves equal weight.
Ask:
Is this aligned with my core values — health, relationships, stability, integrity?
Am I reacting emotionally, or thinking long-term?
Does this truly improve my life, or just fill space?
Clarity often means:
Fewer commitments
Fewer distractions
More alignment
Wisdom begins by removing noise.
2️⃣ Consequence
What does this cost — now and later?
Every decision compounds.
Ask:
What will this cost my time over the next year?
What will it cost my energy?
What will it cost financially?
If this goes wrong, how disruptive is it?
Adults 50+ understand tradeoffs better than anyone.
This step reinforces maturity, not urgency.
You’re signaling:
“I think beyond today.”
3️⃣ Character
Does this align with who I want to be?
At this stage, identity matters more than ambition.
Ask:
Does this strengthen my integrity?
Would I be proud of this choice in five years?
Does this reinforce the kind of person I’m becoming?
This differentiates you from productivity culture.
You’re not asking, “Will this get me ahead?”
You’re asking, “Does this reflect who I am?”
That’s powerful.
4️⃣ Compounding
Will this simplify my future or complicate it?
The second half of life should feel lighter, not heavier.
Ask:
Does this reduce complexity or increase it?
Will this create stability or volatility?
Is this a small action that improves my future self?
Adults 50+ deeply resonate with this.
This is where your signal becomes distinct:
Wisdom = protecting future peace.
